We are not even aware that we work our muscles day by day, by lifting our shopping bags, cleaning with our vacuum cleaner, walking up the staircase, standing up to look for a folder, etc. The functional workout focuses on reproducing these different movements by optimising them to avoid injuries and developing a harmonious physique, and making them more intense and more efficient. The second principle is to work all of the muscles. Contrary to classic muscle training which focuses on one or several muscles separately, the functional workout activates the whole muscle chains and joints. The upper and lower part of the body work at the same time and not separately. Forget about repetitions of weights for the back or abdomen and replace them in favour of complete exercises which involve the whole body! Functional training is recommended and efficient for everyone! Apart from persons suffering from diseases which prevent them from heart efforts, it is for everybody, regardless of their age or physical condition. We can simply adjust the intensity to the capacities and individual goals. Perfect to get in shape, it offers exercises which avoid risks of injury and concentrate on a harmonious and global development of all the muscles. Functional training is also perfect for sports enthousiastes persons who are more dedicated and look for performance. In this case, we just have to increase the difficulty and intensity of the exercises. They can, for example, use elastic ribbons which are more resistant or make their movements on “BOSU” or Swiss-ball in order to create instability. Furthermore, even if you prefer to carry out the functional training with a coach, after acquiring some practice, you can do most of the exercises alone and continue the training at home.
